The open locating standard

omlox is the world's first open locating standard which aims to implement flexible real-time locating solutions with elements from various manufacturers without requiring any project planning. The term omlox is derived from the Latin terms "omni" = omnipresent and "locus" = location. omlox is part of Profibus & Profinet International.

omlox defines interfaces for the omlox core zone and the omlox hub: using these technologies, UWB-based (ultra-wideband) devices from different manufacturers can be located in one localization zone, and location information of complementary localization technologies can be mapped holistically.

The standardized omlox interfaces create an open RTLS ecosystem

Location data allows you to collect insights into activities, processes and offer huge potential to develop more efficient operations. Real-time locating solutions are therefore critical for Smart Factories, Digital Transformation, and Industry 4.0.

The only issue: Most of the solutions are propriety, creating vendor lock-ins due to an unflexible set-up. omlox changes all that: The world's first open localization standard aims to implement flexible real-time locating solutions with elements from different manufacturers: Mix & match your individual RTLS!

omlox defines two standardized interfaces

Your advantages using an omlox compatible solution

No lock-in

Following a mix & match strategy, ýou can set-up an RTLS as you like it. Hardware, software and application can be combined with providers from the omlox community.

No limits

The omlox hub enables interoperability and flexibility across different locating zones. Various locating technologies (ex. UWB, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5G, RFID, and BLE) can be easily connected, all for the first tim creating a holistic map of the whole smart factory.

Lower costs

Working with standardized interfaces, creating a locating solution that just fits you right are reduced to a minimum. As all suppliers within the omlox community work together, each of them focus on their core competencies that can all be combined. omlox creates an open ecosystem, fostering innovation and reducing costs.

omlox is part of Profibus Profinet International

PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) is a non-profit organization for industrial communication. PI is owner of the PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link technology and responsible for further developments. With 25 regional organizations all over the world, 1.400 member companies and about 4,000 different products, PI is currently the world's largest interest group for industrial communication covering all key markets of industrial automation like factory automation, process automation, motion control and safety related applications. Currently, more than 56 million PROFIBUS products and about 17 million PROFINET nodes are installed worldwide! For more information visit: www.profibus.com
